Born in Kobe, Japan, in 1983, Yamaguchi graduated on Arts and Design at the universities of Osaka and Kyoto. Her work combines photography, video and performance and she is in fact one of the most relevant up and coming artists in Japan.

Keitai girl is an imaginary character created by Noriko Yamaguchi. It presents a futurist image of a human being that has implanted communication electronic devices in her whole body. Yamaguchi was inspired by the mobile phone phenomenon in Japan and its multiple functions: credit card, TV and video, MP3 player, GPS, digital camera and e-mail. A trend that has drastically changed the way we share information and communication. Keitai girl is a caricature of today’s people: her body is covered by numerous keyboards that keep her connected with everyone in the cyberspace but, at the same time, she wants to be touched through the keyboards implanted in her body, suggesting by her costume her passion for physical sensations.
