This call offers visual artists from all over the world the opportunity to exhibit their work at the next edition of the Festival, in June 2022. The theme to be addressed in this 16th edition is Imagining.
The international jury composed of Jon Uriarte – Digital Curator of Photographers’ Gallery (UK), Marina Paulenka – Independent Curator (Croatia), Thyago Nogueira – Head of Photography at the Instituto Moreira Salles (Brazil) and Damarice Amao – Curator at the Centre Pompidou (France) – has selected 11 finalist projects and 4 winning projects. The latter 4 will form part of the programme of the 16th edition of Getxophoto. Congratulations!

Jury

Jon Uriarte
Artist and digital curator of The Photographers’ Gallery
He studied photography in Barcelona and at the ICP in New York, as well as taking a master’s degree in Projects and Artistic Theories at PhotoEspaña and the European University of Madrid. He has exhibited in various art centres and galleries, both in group and solo shows in Madrid, Donostia, New York, Berlin and Barcelona. Founder of the independent platform Widephoto, he coordinated Foto Colectania’s DONE Programme for three years. He is currently digital curator of The Photographers’ Gallery in London and artistic director of Getxophoto Festival.
Marina Paulenka
Independent curator, teacher and art consultant (Croatia)
Former artistic director of UNSEEN Amsterdam and, before that, curator and artistic director of the International Photography Festival Organ Vida. She has curated numerous exhibitions and worked with artists such as Zanele Muholi, Hannah Starkey, Roger Ballen, Pieter Hugo and Laia Abril, among others. She sits on international juries and reviews portfolios for numerous institutions, awards and festivals around the world such as Les Rencontres d’Arles, the Hamburg Triennale, Parallel Photo Platform or Format Festival.
Thyago Nogueira
Head of Photography at the Instituto Moreira Salles (Brasil)
Curator, editor and photographer, he is also editor-in-chief of the photography magazine ZUM. He has organised several exhibitions and publications such as Claudia Andujar, The Yanomami Struggle (2020), William Eggleston: American Color (2015), Cuerpo contra cuerpo (2017) or Rosângela Rennó: Utopic Rio (2017). He has also been guest editor of Aperture magazine dedicated to São Paulo photography (2014), co-curator of Magnum’s Offside project during the World Cup in Brazil and chaired the Hasselblad Prize in 2019. He is currently working on a major retrospective of Daido Moriyama’s work.
Damarice Amao
Photographic historian and curator at the Centre Pompidou (Francia)
Damarice Amao is an art and photography historian and assistant curator in the Department of Photography at the Musée National d’Art Moderne Centre Pompidou.
