Bunker
The performance Bunker, one of the winners of the Getxophoto Open Call 2023, reflects the isolation induced in us by wandering aimlessly through the mediascape, the media space that has replaced our physical environment. The performers walk the streets of Buenos Aires, São Paulo or Getxo hidden behind LED glasses that block their view while they play media headlines. In this parallel world, made up of an infinite scroll of current news, our attention is blinded by an avalanche of micro-messages that replace each other until they become indistinguishable. This is a continuous present in which everything is similar and there is no outside. Locked in the bunker of our devices, an overall vision disappears because, as Marshall McLuhan said, “the medium is the message.”
The philosopher Tung-Hui Hu’s name for this semi-unconscious condition that affects thought, perception, empathy and mood is “digital lethargy”. For media capitalism, the mentally healthy user is an error in the system.
Born in 1991, the Argentinian Peruvian artist lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has a degree in Image and Sound Design from the University of Buenos Aires and a background in Film and Cinematography. In 2019 she won the Bienal de Arte Joven de Buenos Aires Prize and in 2021 she was shortlisted for the Fundación Fortabat prize, she was resident at Pivô Pesquisa (Sao Paulo) and won a Creation Grant from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes of Argentina. Between 2018 and 2022 she was artistic director of Rolf Art Gallery. She curated the exhibitions Eterno Resplandor and Yungas / La Prensa, as well as the Audiovisual Programme of ArteBA in 2021. Her work has been exhibited at the Bienal Sur and institutions such as the Centro Cultural San Martín, MAMBA, CCK, Museo MAR, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Centro Haroldo Conti or the Byte Footage Festival.
