Lima, Peru, 1950. She lives currently between San José, Costa Rica, and Philadelphia, USA. She is an Associate Faculty Master as guest artist at the University of Pennsylvania. She was a resident artist at Bellagio, Rockefeller Foundation (1998), at the University of Pennsylvania (1999) and at the La Isla Flotante project, in Queensland, Australia (2001). She has taken part in various exhibitions in Spain, Costa Rica, Ireland, United States, Australia, Panama, Cuba and Peru. Recently she was invited to show her work individually at the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow and at the Museum of Art in Costa Rica, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the museum’s creation.
Her work explores the sensual surface in which the body is deliberately confused with nature and nature with the body. Through an elaborated staging and with the help of digital processing, Paredes involves us in the search for an area of identity that the human being seems to have forgotten: its position as an animal within nature.
