Martin Kollar

Nothing special

Born in 1971 in Žilina, Czechoslovakia (Slovakia today). Currently residing in Prague. Studied Camera Work at the Film and TV Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Since completing his degree has worked as a freelance photographer and cameraman. His work has been internationally recognised in competitions such as the Leica Oskar Barnack Award, World Press Photo and Fujifilm Euro Press Photo Awards. At present is a member of the prestigious French agency VU.

Martin has a peculiar manner of observing and, above all, a fascinating knack for capturing the most fleeting, eccentric and sometimes surrealist moments that underlie the most normal situations. The collection of images chosen for the Festival are grouped together around the notion of free time. They show activities that to anyone else’s eyes appear normal, but in the clutches of Kollar they become moments verging on Dadaism.
